City of Kairos

History:

City of Kairos was an experimental game that was constructed on the fly as a structure for developing the CKAOS game engine.

Once the engine was created, we began construction on a demo game named after the first game—City of KAirOS—and the game engine took its name from this demo game. CKAOS became the primordial force in the demo game universe.

However, City of Kairos, as a non-game, exemplified this principle of CKAOS: Kaos that contains Chaos. Like a black hole, City of Kairos sucked elements of CKAOS back into itself, creating a playable form of pure metafictional cKaos.

Thus, in a City of Kairos, Agents of CKAOS were born, insensible to all. Deep cover sleeper agents formed a department called Hit Rabble. These agents were run through another department called Blah Tribe. Both were divisions of the operational headquarters of CKAOS, located in the Krack (a manifestation of the Vespertine dimension), known as The Rib Lab—pioneers of a process known as Blit Rehab. Informally, agents refer to this process within their training as TAONGAF.

Training was required for the sole purpose of protecting the Earth dimension, known as the Gloom, from the 360 Elites. These mudshadows, vampires, werewolves, ghouls, and creatures of the night were enslaving humanity and preying upon them as livestock.

Close to the Gloom, and a City of Kairos called Nodnol, in a realm known as Arcadia, a new threat rears its head—greater than any encountered yet. In near-desperation, Blah Tribe is awakening Hit Rabble operatives early. A mere guardian of this threat has been created in the form of a New God—the Machine made flesh. Only pure CKAOS can save us now, and a quest to find and protect the Zwijgend of old, the Balbh, the Krack Expelled, the Band from The Universe.

You find yourself in the Gloom, a city called London, experiencing the echoes and aftershocks of this Vespertine Crisis. Capitalist AI takes what is still left of our livelihoods, whilst simultaneously removing us from the very streets.

A non-profit treasure hunt has sprung up, a complex work of immersive musical theatre. As you solve the puzzles and follow the story, new locations hosting new clues are unlocked. Each host—another place of respite on the trail—is represented by local artists and small businesses supported by your arrival.
